Mexico Virtual Wine Tastings

Bailliage of Mexico
On-line, August 28 & September 10, 2020

Bailliages of Cozumel & Guadalajara

The power of Zoom!

Cozumel, August 28th
The Bailliage’s first virtual wine tasting using Zoom comprised two wines from the Sotomontano region in Spain.

Somontano is a Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) created in 1984. It is located in the county of the same name, in the province of Huesca. Wine production is centred on the town of Barbastro. The name Somontano, as its Latin roots suggest, means “beneath the mountain” – this perfectly defines this geographic area which spreads out from the foothills of the Pyrenees down to the Ebro valley. There are over 4000 hectares of vines and about 500 individual grape-growers.

The wines - a while and a red - came from Bodegas Enate, namely:
- Chardonnay ‘234’ 2018
- Crianza Tempranillo/Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

The tasting was tutored by Lucca Ballota, Restaurant Manager, and Sergio Turriza, Executive Chef, both of the Intercontinental Hotel Cozumel, and Maître Sommelier Johan Valderrabano of Bodegas Enate. At the end of the session thanks were expressed to all the three presenters, to Bodegas Enate and to wine importer Ferrer and Asociados.

Guadalajara, September 10th
Because of the restrictions the Bailliage decided to hold a virtual event featuring MaCo Vineyards wines produced in the Napa Valley. The winery is owned by the Bailliage’s Vice-Chargé de Missions Jesús Maciel.
