On November 17th at the Hilton Hotel members of the Bailliage and their guests joined people around the world to celebrate the arrival of the Beaujolais Nouveau.

More than 200 took part in this festive evening. We enjoyed a 5-star service by the Hilton staff, making it a particularly enjoyable occasion.

The Beaujolais Nouveau flowed freely, accompanying a stunning buffet displaying traditional dishes from Lyon, speciality charcuterie, poultry and white meat. There were also hard as well as soft cheeses with exquisite flavours, such as Brillat-Savarin which goes so well with many wines, including Beaujolais Nouveau.

Beaujolais Nouveau is popular because it’s a simple, fruity wine that is particularly easy to drink. It marks the arrival of a new vintage, which people can’t wait to try. Last year, almost 9 million bottles were sold in France, and almost the same again abroad. Its image is one of celebration and joy.

Throughout the evening an orchestra played gentle music as well as more upbeat tunes to the delight of the guests, who carried on enjoying the event late into the night.

Ed. The 2022 Beaujolais nouveau is here and, even though the volume produced this year was smaller than usual, the wine is delightfully juicy and fresh. A very competitive vintage, with a smooth flavour and less acidity than more recent wines. The red berry notes give way to a sweet finish. Around 48% of the wine produced is drunk abroad, with Japan being the biggest consumer, buying 41% of exports, ahead of the United States and the United Kingdom.
