World Chaîne Day (WCD) 2021 was mostly virtual: either celebrated at home or with a small group of people. Actually, this worked very well with one of the original ideas I had in mind when six years ago developing World Chaîne Day.
One idea - and a basic value of WCD - is to raise the profile of individual members. Putting them in the spotlight and giving them the opportunity to show off their membership to the whole world. WCD is making this come true.
Even though COVID-19 is still setting rules and limitations, we had very wide participation and from every corner of the world.
When looking through the enormous flow of pictures in social media, topmost is evident joy. Joy of cooking, joy of enjoying, and joy of being a member.
As life still is what it is, we decided to set a simple theme for this year: egg.
And what did we get? A huge number of pictures showcasing the most delicious and imaginative egg dishes. From simple and basic ones to creations made by top chefs.
Also, we had a first. Launched this year was the WCD pin designed by Saihei Makinami, Member of Conseil d’Administration and renowned designer. The 1000 pins produced were quickly taken up. You were very lucky and can be very happy if you have a WCD 2021 pin. It will be a rarity.
Our Social Media Wall encountered an unexpected, really rare and unfortunate problem. On Saturday evening Facebook had a major global technical problem with hashtags. Consequently nothing from Facebook or Instagram came through to the wall for a long time. The bug was not fixed until during Monday.
Thankfully all the original material was safe, but it was not visible for all to enjoy on the Social Media Wall.
At the time of writing this article I didn’t have numbers or statistics about the WCD social media visibility, however, I already know that we had lots of likes and gained followers other than our members. This I hope is spreading an excellent public image for Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.
In conclusion, I would like to say a big thank you to fellow members around the world for making this wonderful event come true. It is growing bigger and bigger every year.
And last but not least - save the date: WCD 2022 will be on Saturday, April 23rd.
