An amazing event at the Kempinski Beijing
" a beautiful World Chaîne Day to remember for the ages "

In April 2020, COVID-19 was ravaging the globe. Most World Chaîne Day events moved online. However, a year later Beijing was very fortunate in being able to “return to normal”. That meant we celebrated together at the timeless Kempinski Hotel Beijing.

The normally hazy days of Beijing’s spring dissipated. That allowed us to enjoy the sunset in the garden while sipping glasses of Champagne Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut NV whilst listening to live jazz music.

The garden had four “live stations” offering canapes of beef tartare, squid ink roll, tomato terrine, and copious amounts of caviar. The Kempinski designed a hand-crafted World Chaîne Day backdrop especially for this event.

Once the sun had set we were escorted to the hotel’s Vienna Ballroom. One long table was set up to seat all 45 members and guests amongst who was Chancelier Kevin Chang.

Chefs Milan Cotra and Frank Zhang came together the prepare a “four hands” around-the-world menu that was delicious and unique.

As the evening progressed, we had several live performances ranging from a Cuban salsa dancing team to a violin and piano duet. Each performance corresponded to the matching destination of the dish. We travelled from Italy, to Cuba, back to Beijing, then to France, and Germany paired with wines from the USA, Argentina, Italy, and France from the wine supplier Torres.

The Kempinski Hotel Beijing pulled out all the stops to make this a night for the history books … a beautiful World Chaîne Day to remember for the ages.

Vive la Chaîne!
