A Bioland-certified winery
" Hospitality and enjoyment are a way of life at the Idler winery "
In 2012, Professionnel du Vin Marcel Idler founded the Bioland-certified Idler winery, continuing his family’s long-standing winemaking tradition. Every day, he and a young, motivated team, work with the mindset of “making it just a little bit better.” Alongside an uncompromising focus on wine quality, great importance is also placed on the careful and respectful treatment of nature.
In 2019, a new winery was built on the outskirts of Strümpfelbach, featuring modern and appealing architecture. The design is as minimalist and sustainable as the organically certified wines the estate produces. In the newly constructed cellar, grapes from around 10 hectares of vineyards are processed with the utmost care, allowing the individual character and potential of each wine to be precisely brought out.
Ecological practices and extensive manual labour in the vineyard form the foundation for cultivating healthy, aromatic grapes which is essential for creating deep, authentic wines that reflect their origin. Diverse cover crops and organic fertilization promote living soils and high biodiversity in the vineyards.
Soil differences, site locations, climate, and vintage conditions all influence the winemaker’s work and are expressed in each wine. Every individual vineyard is cultivated with the final wine in mind. Whilst unique characteristics of each plot can present challenges they offer opportunities to create distinctive wines shaped by their terroir.
Following a selective harvest at the optimal ripening time, every effort is made to preserve the grapes valuable aromas. The grapes are processed using the principle of gravity, avoiding pumping or mechanical stress. Everything needed to make a great wine is already inside the berries. The juice is fermented into wine by the vineyard’s natural yeasts.
The red wines mature for 12 to 24 months in large and small wooden barrels. The white wines are developed in stainless steel tanks and traditional half-sized oak barrels. This is followed by aging on the fine lees until just before bottling enhancing the wines’ depth and longevity.
The Vinothek Lehenstein (r), which offers a direct view into the wine cellar, is ideal for tastings, events, and meetings. Located right next to vineyards and orchards, it’s an especially attractive starting point for a summer discovery tour through the Remstal region.
Hospitality and enjoyment are a way of life at the Idler winery. In addition to wine tastings for small groups or larger culinary wine pairings, various events are held throughout the year, such as the “Pop-Up Wine Bar” or “Autumn Time” during the grape harvest.
