World Chaîne Day - First thoughts

April 23, 2022

" Another outstanding day! "

“Another outstanding day!”

Preparing for this year’s World Chaîne Day (WCD) was a little like jumping into the unknown. COVID-19 was still in a delicate, unpredictable situation in many parts of the world.

On reflection my concerns were unfounded. Despite total lockdowns still in effect in some countries, the majority of Chaîne member countries could take part. Accordingly, I am very happy with the outcome and proud to proclaim WCD 2022 a resounding success.

During the past two years world-wide restrictions affected WCD significantly. Large gatherings and official Chaîne events were in the minority. Instead, the focus was on home cooking and events with small group of friends or family.

The world is finally opening up. Bigger events are back - clearly demonstrated by social media posts. However, 2022 is still a transition time yet the direction is evident. The Chaîne’s resilience has brought us through the COVID-19 pandemic strengthening its foundations. The result is that members are eager and obviously very happy to get together again.

Incoming material through social media was once again enormous. New postings continue to appear on our Social Media Wall!

This year “green in all its forms” was the theme. It was shown clearly in the planning and implementation of events. Lots of vegetables as well as “green” environmental/ecological values were observed.

A nicely developing trend is the gastronomic trip or excursion with a theme. For example, to mention just a few, this year we had:
- Belgium’s Orient Express lunch
- Portugal’s delicious “food truck” lunch in the mountains
- Kenya and Mexico events being staged outside at one with nature

Looking at the bigger picture, WCD shows how versatile Chaîne members’ activity can be. From home cooking with the family enjoying excellent wine and atmosphere together, to large parties with high end dinners in a relaxed environment.

Every occasion is equally valuable. Every occasion is worthy of Chaîne ribbons. Every occasion creates those special Chaîne memories.

The “Photo Competition” jury is now fully engaged busily going through all the photos submitted. The winners of each category will be announced in June during the Chaîne’s AGM in Paris.

Last but not least, save the date: World Chaîne Day 2023 is scheduled for Saturday, April 22nd.
