Our first Ordre Mondial des Gourmets Dégustateurs (OMGD) event showcased New Zealand Babich wines with a delicious “down under” BBQ.

This summer family event was held on the 6/F Garden Terrace at the KHOS Shenyang from 4pm - 7pm to allow younger members of our Chaîne community to join us. June is a very refreshing month with abundant sunshine and a cool breeze which made the green surroundings a perfect location.

The pre-dinner bubbles were a well-balanced blush crush from Auckland. A microbubble blended with Sauvignon Blanc enhanced with a touch of Malbec. Complemented with delicious canapes, which included blue cheese crostini, smoked salmon crepe and tomato watermelon gazpacho.

Our wine selection featured the beautiful Babich Wines, New Zealand oldest self-sustainable vineyard. We had an interesting educational journey which showcased their Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, Chardonnay from Hawkes Bay, Rosé crafted from Pinot Noir in Marlborough, Pinot Noir from Marlborough, and a celebration red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from Hawkes Bay.

Each wine was savoured appreciatively by our members and guests. Marlborough is the most famous and important wine region of New Zealand. It is the origin of over a century-old vineyard, Babich. An advocate of organic planting and biodynamics in New Zealand, Babich leads the way. The concept of the winery is that they care from grape to glass, which was certainly highlighted during our experience.

I was honoured to introduce the characteristics and styles of each wine. The selection
represented the great wines of New Zealand at the highest level. Each wine complemented the perfectly-prepared “down under” BBQ featuring beef, lamb, chicken, pork and seafood with a great selection of sides. Not to mention crowning the meal off with a fruit Pavlova.

Our members met many new friends who experienced this beautiful fun event together with family, radiating the joy of Chaîne and enticing future members.
