Celebrating the achievements of women
" the Chaîne celebrates its women members across the world "
International Women’s Day (IWD) is marked annually on March 8th.
IWD is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere, and all IWD activity is valid. That’s what makes IWD so inclusive.
IWD is a public holiday in several countries. The UN observes the holiday in connection with a particular issue, campaign, or theme in women's rights. In the West, it is largely a sociocultural event centred on a celebration of womanhood. The theme for 2024 is “inspire inclusion”.
