On August 20th, the Bailliage of Bangkok-Rattanakosin gathered at Clara for an evening celebrating gastronomy, friendship and the international fellowship of the Chaîne.

Members from Bangkok and Thailand’s Eastern Seaboard were joined by new members recently transferred from Kenya and guests visiting from Dubai. The diversity around the table set the tone for the evening, as different backgrounds and Chaîne experiences came together through a shared appreciation of food and wine. Introductions soon gave way to the easy conversation and camaraderie that distinguishes the Confrérie.

The choice of Clara carried particular meaning for the Bailliage. The restaurant was among the first visited following the formation of the Bailliage of Bangkok-Rattanakosin, beginning an enduring friendship with Christian and Clara Martena. Returning several years later offered an opportunity to reflect on their parallel journeys: Clara’s evolution into one of Bangkok’s most accomplished dining destinations and the Bailliage’s growth into a close-knit, increasingly international community.

Hidden among the quiet residential lanes of Yen Akat, Clara occupies a former art gallery surrounded by greenery. Soaring white walls, floor-to-ceiling windows, sculptural lighting and carefully curated artworks create a setting that is both dramatic and intimate. Christian, Clara and their team welcomed the Bailliage back with a warmth that gave the evening the character of a reunion.

The specially created menu reflected Clara’s contemporary approach to Italian cuisine, informed by Japanese precision, balance and restraint. Delicate seafood, handmade pasta, gindara [Ed: sablefish] and Wagyu were accompanied by a considered progression of Italian wines, moving from Franciacorta and northern Italian whites to Barbera, Alto Adige Pinot Noir and mature Barolo. The pairings complemented the cuisine while allowing each dish to retain its individual character.

Throughout the evening, polished service was balanced by genuine warmth. From the kitchen to the dining room, the Clara team created an experience that felt accomplished yet personal, allowing conversation and fellowship to remain at the centre of the occasion.

The dinner was more than a return to an admired restaurant. It celebrated how both Clara and the young Bailliage have developed while preserving the friendship and shared love of the table that connected them from the beginning.
