CEO Ari Pärnänen says, “Verso's story began in spring 2016 when the owners of the renowned Boutique Hotel Yöpuu, namely Maître Hôtelier Katriina Pilppula and me, rented the hotel's premises from the Kauppalaisseura Foundation.”

He continued, “The same traditions, which have always been honoured in the family-owned Hotel Yöpuu and Pöllöwaari Restaurant, continue in the modern, city centre Hotel Verso. The service culture and listening to our customers are the cornerstones of our business. Working together with small local producers and entrepreneurs is an important choice for a local family business like ours. It is the key issue in our mindset.”

Jyväskylä is full of events and interesting activities through the year. Katriina and Ari's flagship high-quality hotels, unique Yöpuu and urban Verso, with restaurants Pöllöwaari and Verson Bar and The Kitchen form an accommodation, restaurant and meeting service complex in the city.

Katriina's entrepreneurial career began in 2000, when she founded a cafe in Vaajakoski. Six years later with her spouse, Ari Pärnänen, the hotel Yöpuu and the restaurant Pöllöwaari in the centre of Jyväskylä were bought. In 2016, the operation expanded when Hotel Verso and Verso Bar were opened.

An almost 20-year entrepreneurial journey in tourism began when Katriina and Ari opened the Naissaari Kahvi- ja Jhlahuone in Vaajakoski. In 2006, the operation moved to the central area of Jyväskylä as Hotelli Yöpuu. June 2016, Hotelli Verso opened. The concept has developed and expanded at a steady pace. Today the Yöpuu Yhtiö company offers 300 plus beds, about 200 restaurant seats and 11 various meeting rooms.

The family business was strengthened when daughter Aino joined Yöpuu in 2018 as the company's Sales Manager. In total, Yöpuu Yhtiö currently employs around 80 people. In addition, Yöpuu and Verso offer internships to industry students each year.

Given its strong Chaîne credentials the hotel hosted a Finland Chapitre on January 20th. Chef Jukka Kyllönen’s excellent courses were partnered to perfection by wines chosen by Vice-Échanson Honoraire Ulla Häkkinen. Ulla is a rare professional in the restaurant industry working for the same employer for over 18 years.
