Maître Restaurateur Christian Bind is a renowned French-Danish chef and restaurateur who has significantly influenced the culinary scene in Denmark. Born in 1956 in Scherwiller, France, he trained in some of the most prestigious French Michelin 3-star establishments, including the Auberge de l’Ill in Alsace where he was apprenticed to the Haeberlin brothers. He has worked with iconic chefs such as Paul Bocuse and Joël Robuchon. During his military service, Christian was a French army General’s private chef.
However, his earliest influence was in the family home where he helped his mother prepare two to three courses for lunch and dinner. Most of the ingredients were home grown: herbs and vegetables plus poultry, rabbits and pigeons. His father made the wine. So, Christian says “Cooking has always been my greatest interest.”
Christian’s career in Denmark includes notable roles such as his 12-year tenure at Falsled Kro, a famous gourmet destination on the island of Funen. He later became Head Chef at Chez Paul in Flensburg, Germany, where he earned a Michelin star. From 1992 to 2006, he co-owned and led the kitchen at Fakkelgården, a hotel and restaurant in Kruså.
In 2008, with his wife Pia he opened Restaurant Bind in Sønderhav near the Flensburg Firth (the westernmost inlet of the Baltic Sea). The restaurant is celebrated for its French-inspired cuisine and its reputation has earned it accolades such as three stars in Den Danske Spiseguide. Christian Bind’s culinary excellence was also recognized when he won the prestigious Prix Pierre Taittinger in Paris in 1988 and was later knighted in the French Mérite Agricole order in 2004.
