Switzerland - Swiss Wine Competition

Bailliage of Switzerland
Basel, May 24, 2025

A very close affair

" Échanson Nadim Arfan announced the results during a top-class dinner held at the Schlüsselzunft Restaurant "

The third edition of the Swiss Wine Competition was held in Basel on Saturday, May 24th at the SET Hotel.Residence by Teufelhof, during the aperitif preceding the National Bailliage’s Annual General Assembly.

This year, the chosen theme was a blend of Swiss grape varieties aged in barrels. Eight wines competed. Among them, an exception was made: a wine blended in the canton of Basel but made from grapes originating in the Grisons.

The wines were tasted by the Vice-Échansons from Swiss Bailliages, including Jennifer Badino, the new Vice-Échanson of the Bailliage of Suisse Intérieur and Head Sommelier at The Chedi Andermatt, who recently won Third Place in the “SwissWine” competition. Also present was Noha Kurzidim, who will represent Switzerland at the 2025 International Final of the Jeunes Sommeliers Competition in Geneva this coming September.

Following a very close competition, Échanson Nadim Arfan announced the results during a top-class dinner held at the Schlüsselzunft Restaurant headed by Vice-Conseiller Culinaire Andreas Übersax.

The prize for the best Swiss wine of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs was awarded to the canton of Vaud. The wine, presented by Vice-Échanson David Blanchard - who is also its producer - comes from the village of Tartegnin, whose motto “Tartegnin, land of good wine” proved true once again.

The Cellier du Mas presented a reserve wine - an assemblage of Gamaret, Merlot, Diolinoir, Cabernet, and Mara - aged in barrels for 10 months. This marks the first time since the competition’s inception that the winning wine hails from a French-speaking canton, a source of great pride for the Bailliage of Pays de Vaud.
