Sweden Grand Chapitre

Bailliage of Sweden
Karlskrona, August 26-28, 2022

A win-win event
" Apart from starting up a new Bailliage we also enjoyed welcoming members from all over Sweden "

To arrange a Grand Chapitre and at the same time to push the start-up button for a new Bailliage does not happen every day. In all ways it is a true win-win event; a great occasion to meet and at the same time make the Chaîne grow.

This was exactly what the National Bailliage’s 2022 Grand Chapitre in the county of Blekinge was all about. Blekinge, also known as “Garden of Sweden”, is located in the very south-east corner of the country by the Baltic Sea.

The programme started on Friday evening with a visit to Eriksberg Hotel and Nature Reserve by 100 members and guests. After touring the nature reserve a fantastic dinner was served in the restaurant´s herbal garden. Focus of course was on the reserve´s own products paired with excellent wines chosen by the Sommelier.

Next day some attendees visited two local vineyards Stora Boråkra and Stora Horn. The first located in the lush green hills close to the city of Karlskrona and the latter on a rougher terrain island in the archipelago. Both are excellent examples of the booming Swedish wine industry. Lunch, a savouring of wild game sausages and a variety of beers from the Johannishus Estate, was enjoyed in the garden of Bailli Délégué Carl Wachtmeister’s summer house.

Second excursion of the day was a walk exploring historic parts of the city of Karlskrona, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Late afternoon the Induction Ceremony, the more formal part of the Grand Chapitre, took place. In the Johannishus Estate’s Stone Barn, which dates back to the mid-18th century, Thore Sande, Member of the Conseil d’Administration from Norway representing President Yam Atallah, conducted the Induction Ceremony impeccably.

The reception featured drinks and tasty appetisers from local producers, including meats from two small rotisseries. Dinner was arranged in another old barn, the Gallerie. The menu’s theme was “Fallow Deer”. Deer from the estate´s own farm combined with excellent wines from the Swedish-owned Rabiega vineyard in Provence. A superb mix of Swedish and French!

Sunday started with a members’ meeting at the restaurant Dockside located on a pier of Karlskrona Marina. Our three-day programme ended with brunch after which members and guests said goodbye until the next time.

Apart from starting up a new Bailliage we also enjoyed welcoming members from all over Sweden not least members from the Bailliage of Norrbotten, some 1200 kilometres to the north. This is truly what Chaîne is all about!
