Celebrating International Women's Day
" we are publishing the interviews with six young women "
International Women's Day is a global day celebrated annually on March 8th to commemorate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women.
The 2022 UN theme for International Women's Day is “Break the Bias”, celebrating women’s achievement, raising awareness against bias and taking action for equality.
Conscious that there are fewer young women than young men participating in the competition, David Tetrault, Chair of the Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs, had the idea of doing virtual interviews with young women Chefs who have participated in recent International Finals.
Accordingly, we are publishing interviews with six young women. All were posed the same questions. Their written responses form the basis of separate articles celebrating their respective careers. [Ed. You can click on the names to be taken the respective articles.]
Amelia Ng (Malaysia) - Winner in 2017
Tay 'Lynnette' Sock Hui Payuda (Singapore) - competed in 2017
Theresa Rogl (Austria) - Third Place in 2019
Elisabeth Johan (Austria) - competed in 2021
Vilja Valliranta (Finland) - competed in 2021
Gabriella O'Neil (USA) - competed in 2021
In analysing the data, David was encouraged to note that of the 56 young women competitors going back to 2001, 25 are still active Chaîne members.
David and I hope that you will enjoy the celebration of the six careers on the special occasion that is International Women’s Day.
