Nils says of his role as General Manager, “It is to lead and inspire my team to achieve their goals and personal effectiveness beyond all expectations. I continuously strive personally to achieve the highest standard and to empower others and myself by providing guidance, stability and support.”

Nils joined the Chaîne as a Maître Hôtelier whilst working in Manila in the Philippines. On his career move to Nairobi he was promoted to Vice-Chargé de Missions for the Bailliage of Nairobi.

Latest of a whole raft of accolades and awards achieved during his career Nils is “Recipient of the 2023 World Travel Awards, Africa for Fairmont The Norfolk Hotel in the category – Africa’s Leading City Hotel”.

A successful career has taken Nils around the world including Ethiopia, United Arab Emirates and Zambia with many locations in South Africa. Since February 2023 he is based in Nairobi, Kenya as Cluster General Manager with responsibility for Fairmont Hotels and Safari Clubs Kenya, namely the Fairmont The Norfolk and the Fairmont Mara Safari Club.

He moved to Nairobi from the Philippines where, during the period 2019-2023, he was General Manager responsible for the pre-opening and opening of the Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA in Manila. Before that, from 2016-2019, Nils was Cluster General Manager responsible for all hospitality operations by IFA Hotels & Resorts at the luxury Fairmont Zimbali Resort in South Africa.

About the man: Born in Offenbach, Germany, he is married with one son. Fluent in German and English; his hobbies include mountain biking, golf, rugby, diving, cooking and travelling. A great communicator, passionate host, big thinker who is poised under pressure, Nils is reputed as an excellent team player with an entrepreneurial mindset who has high standards. Commitment to his education is exemplified by his latest qualification received in September 2023 from e-Cornell University. Commitment to his profession is outstanding especially supporting new entrants to the hospitality industry as a mentor. As a champion for the Sub-Saharan Africa Region, he served on the “Women in Leadership” council.
