Christian and Dory Ottenbacher are the fourth generation to run the “Adler” hotel and restaurant business in Asperg. Known for its Michelin star-winning cuisine of Swabian the hotel offers tried and tested regional dishes with modern, international twists.
Professional Career of Christian Ottenbacher
Christian Ottenbacher began his training in gastronomy in 1984. Initially, he completed an apprenticeship as a chef at the Wald- und Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe in Zweiflingen. This was followed by spells abroad in Switzerland, France, Austria, the United States and Spain. From 1991 to 1993, he studied hotel business administration, operations management, and administration at the Hotel Management School in Heidelberg. In 1994, he returned to Asperg with his wife, Dr Dory Ottenbacher. In 1998, they took over the management of the family hotel.
Christian joined the Chaîne in November 1999 as a Maître Restaurateur in the local Bailliage of Baden-Württemberg. Five years later he was promoted to Officier Maître Restaurateur and in 2016 reached the pinnacle of Chaîne professional membership by becoming a Grand Officier Maître Restaurateur.
Hotel Adler Asperg
Since 1897, the Ottenbacher family has operated the Hotel Adler Asperg. 127 years after the Ottenbacher family acquired the inn in Asperg, the Adler is a customer-oriented, cosmopolitan family business with 70 rooms, conference and meeting rooms, a wellness area, four restaurants, and around 70 employees.
The “4-star superior” grade hotel is located in a quiet and central location in Asperg, 3 km from the baroque city of Ludwigsburg. It has 67 hotel rooms and three themed apartments dedicated to Robert Bosch, Gottlieb Daimler, and Ferdinand Porsche. In addition, the hotel offers a wellness area with bathing and sauna facilities, as well as a fitness room. Hotel Adler Asperg is the only hotel with a swimming pool in the Ludwigsburg region.
The hotel’s gourmet restaurant, Schwabenstube, is located in a 19th-century half-timbered house. For 18 years in a row, it has held a Michelin star. The restaurant's menu features creative cuisine and refined delicacies, as well as regional and international dishes, including a menu for vegan guests.
The Tapas Bar “Aguila” is a typical Spanish restaurant that serves Spanish dishes, Swabian specialities, as well as select wines and cocktails. “Aguila” has been awarded the “Restaurants from Spain” quality seal by the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX). This certification confirms that it offers an authentic Spanish cuisine and experience.
At RichardZ, guests can enjoy high-quality dishes made from fresh ingredients, especially at lunchtime. In addition to its own menu, the restaurant offers a daily special from Monday to Friday, including a vegetarian option.
The Schubart Stube is located on the Hohenasperg, the highest elevation in the Ludwigsburg district and a historic site closely linked to the history of the state of Württemberg. For several years, the Ottenbacher family has leased the restaurant, which specializes in Swabian cuisine and local wines.
Hotel Director Christian Ottenbacher no longer works in the kitchen himself, but still has a penchant for good food … and a good nose for talent. The hotel's restaurants offer something for every palate. They also offer special arrangements for young connoisseurs, pupils and students.
