About Beneduce Vineyards
The family’s name “Beneduce” means “Good Leader” in Italian, and they have their sights set on becoming leaders of today’s agricultural reawakening in New Jersey and beyond.
In 2009, Mike Beneduce planted the first vines on a sunny hillside at the top of the family farm and since then has made it his life’s mission to put New Jersey wine on the map.
The unique, high elevation site is characterized by deep shale soils, a steady breeze, and several different slopes which are each suited to their own variety. Sustainability is at the forefront of every decision they make on the farm, because as a family rooted in agriculture they know that passing down healthy land to the next generation is our primary obligation.
The 27 acres (11 hectares) of vines are hand pruned, hand harvested, dry farmed, and fertilized only with compost made on the estate from grape skins and stems leftover from the winemaking process. Instead of using herbicide, a healthy, living vineyard floor is maintained year-round. Biodiversity is promoted through native plantings and integrated pest management.
Inside the winery, the approach is simple - do everything necessary to bring out the best in each individual batch of fruit. The small lot production allows the winemaker to hone in on the differences in each variety or blend. This enables the creation of unique wines with distinct personalities that reflect both their vineyard source and the winemaker’s own style.
