From South Africa to Inner Mongolia
" An accomplished amateur golfer, he participated in a BMW World Golf Tournament in George, South Africa "
Jacky Kam, Bailli Délégué of Hong Kong SAR China, has been on his travels these past few months.
South Africa
An accomplished amateur golfer, he participated in the BMW World Golf Tournament in George, South Africa.
He said that it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Competing alongside top amateur golfers from 32 countries on the beautiful Fancourt Golf course was both challenging and inspiring.
The Hong Kong team, of which Jacky was a member, learned a great deal while genuinely enjoying the event. Walking the course on each of four days playing tournament golf pushed them beyond their usual limits, but, whilst not the winners, they were happy with their ranking. The organization was excellent, and the overall experience was very enjoyable.
Inner Mongolia
Jacky and his wife Winnie joined The Seagull Scholarship trip to Inner Mongolia, in China, to sponsor university students from poor families. Jacky observed that this was their 24th year of providing financial support, nevertheless it remains a very meaningful programme to Winnie and him.
The Seagull Scholarship, which connects Hong Kong donors with needy mainland Chinese students, has previously organized educational trips to Inner Mongolia to explore the region's natural attributes.
Historically, these trips offer students a unique cultural experience in regions such as Hailar, showcasing local landscapes and lifestyles. The trips aim to provide students with a “different China” experience, focusing on the vast, distinct scenery of Northern China. Typical routes often include visits to sand dunes, expansive grasslands, and cultural sites, sometimes including local agricultural or nomadic history.
