The Bailliage celebrates at The Grand Hotel
" The night was a resounding success - a testament to all three past and present Baillis "
Members and guests of the Bailliage of Nanaimo attended a gala induction event to celebrate 30 years of fine dining and great fellowship for the Vancouver Island community.
Attended by Bailli Délégué David Tetrault and his wife Joan, the event began with the induction of four new members and the recognition of four Commandeurs who have been part of the Bailliage since its inception in 1985, including Tony Pearson, the founder Bailli (now Honoraire).
In what is fast becoming an annual induction event at The Grand Hotel, the dinner was again hosted by Bailli Susie Sirri from the hotel. Presented in a “Great Gatsby” theme, the Grand Ballroom was beautifully decorated. Furthermore members and guests also dressed in tune with the theme!
Dinner was served under the watchful eye of Executive Chef Ian Ter Veer, who once again showcased his creativity with a varied menu incorporating not only a vast array of flavours from far and wide, but also artistic presentations for each course. Each one of which was complemented by wines from around the globe carefully selected by Sommelier Jeffrey Renville.
Wines stealing the show were the unique Spanish Altovinum ‘Evodia’ Garnacha and rare Oráculo Tempranillo (with less than 20 cases making their way to British Columbia). The night was a resounding success – a testament to all three past and present Baillis together with the members who continue to make the Bailliage of Nanaimo a thriving part of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs in Canada.
The accolade to the kitchen and service brigades was delivered by Chevalier Gregg Dawe. Completing the appreciation, Bailli Délégué David Tetrault presented Executive Chef Ian Ter Veer with a commemorative award.
