China Dinner

Bailliage of Qingdao, China
Qingdao, June 5, 2021

Participating in the city's French Festival
" We dined on the wooden-decked terraces of a majestic historic building "

The Bailliage was honoured to take part in the city’s inaugural French Festival with the unique opportunity to introduce the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs. VIP guests gained exposure to our organisation by attending this event showcasing French culture, cuisine, and much more.

Thirty-two members and guests participated in the event not only from Qingdao but also from the Bailliages of Shanghai and Shenyang.

We also took the opportunity to celebrate what was going to be the last event in Qingdao for Vice-Conseiller Gastronomique Annett Esche. Annett is moving to Germany where she will undoubtedly add great contributions to her local Bailliage there. Annett and her husband, Karsten, who is also a Chaîne member, will be genuinely missed by all of us.

Before dinner, we were treated to a chausson d’escargot (snail turnover) paired with Dodler Crémant d Alsace Brut 2016 and Zhou Jie Lun ‘Bulles d’Amour’ Gamay 2019.

It was a beautiful evening in Qingdao. We dined on the wooden-decked terraces of a majestic historic building in the district of Badaguan with sea views as the sun set.

We were served a seven-course menu featuring seafood vol-au-vent, foie gras, sea bass Provençal, roast beef French style, French cheeses and a spectacular croquembouche. All complemented by and paired with a selection of French wines representing Alsace, Languedoc-Roussillon, Loire Valley and Southern France.

As the evening drew to a close we had a surprise. A farewell gift of a Bailliage of Qingdao ‘private label’ Imperial Bottle (ie. a six-litre Methuselah) of Bordeaux-style wine was perfect to ensure we remembered such an excellent event.

A Bailliage Appreciation Certificate was presented to formally thank Annett for all that she has done for the Bailliage.

This French-themed experience was thoroughly enjoyed and embraced by all in attendance. Another very memorable event hosted by the Bailliage of Qingdao.

Vive la Chaîne!
