Nubivagant '100 Points' wine extravaganza
" Executive Chef Toni Mak, Maître Rôtisseur, thrilled us with non-stop exquisite artisanal creations "
“Wine and friends are a great blend.” Ernest Hemingway
The inaugural Ordre Mondial des Gourmets Dégustateurs (OMGD) event of the Bailliage of Hong Kong SAR was held with 50 members and guests at the award-winning NUVA in the AsiaWorld-Expo complex.
The pre-dinner reception included a tasting of the highly-rated Il Borro designer wines of Ferragamo in Tuscany, including their signature Toscana Rosso IGT 2016 and exclusive ‘Alessandro dal Borro’ Syrah Toscana IGT 2015 which is offered in a limited and numbered edition and a special wine format.
Executive Chef Toni Mak, Maître Rôtisseur, thrilled us with non-stop exquisite artisanal creations rhythmically paired with “100 points” wines selected by Échanson Kenneth Chui. True to NUVA’s name reflecting being in the clouds, we were launched high into a breath-taking wine and dine experience:
New Zealand razor clam with a dash of gazpacho
Champagne Louis Roederer ‘Cristal’ Brut 2008
Baked Deep Bay mud crab soufflé
M Chapoutier Ermitage L’Ermite Blanc 2011
Organic Lantau winter melon chicken consommé
Jeju black pork belly
Casa Lapostolle ‘Clos Apalta’ 2015
Lychee jelly sorbet with vodka shaved ice
Grilled Korean Hoengseong Hanwoo (grass-fed) beef tenderloin
Château Haut-Brion 2014 - First Growth Bordeaux
South African Six-head abalone
French frog’s legs claypot rice
Château Cos d'Estournel 2016 - Second Growth Bordeaux
Japanese green melon cream cake
served in a melon-shaped chocolate shell
Château Rieussec 2001 - First Growth Sauternes
In the spirt of the Olympic Games, the podium went to the outstanding M Chapoutier Ermitage L’Emite Blanc 2011, the stunning Château Haut-Brion 2014 and the sensual Casa Laspostolle ‘Clos Apalta’ 2015.
We went home with the lingering nectarine and honey flavours of the fabulous Château Rieussec 2001. Sweet dreams are made of this! Who are we to disagree?
Indeed, this was a truly memorable evening. Our newly-inaugurated OMGD group travelled the culinary world with Executive Chef Toni and along the way visited six cuvées with Échanson Kenneth.
What’s more, in the finest Chaîne and OMGD traditions, everyone found camaraderie with their fellow members.
Vive la Chaîne! Vive l’Ordre Mondial!
