Like many other Bailliages throughout the Chaîne world Sweden was eager, as soon as possible and with all eventual regulations in mind of course, to restart our social activities.

For this “come back” very suitably it was our 2021 Grand Chapitre in the city of Uppsala located about an hour north of Stockholm. Our caring and appreciated host for the event was the Bailliage of Uppland.

Friday evening provided three options for local fine dining, each with a different focus. The member establishments were PepparPeppar focusing on meat, Hambergs on fish and seafood and Villa Anna on regional cuisine.

Next day two trips in the neighbourhood were planned both to 17th century iron mills and their manor houses. One of which included a vintage steam train and wine tasting by a local producer. Safely home in Uppsala everyone gathered at Uppsala Castle for the Induction Ceremony followed by a generous amount of Champagne.

After the more formal part of the Grand Chapitre we walked down the hill to the Uppsala Botanical Gardens and its Orangerie for our Gala Dinner. In charge of the dinner was Maître Rôtisseur Cajsa Johansson and her staff. For us all this was truly a great evening with top class cuisine as well as outstanding company. After some 18 months of staying at home this was exactly what everyone needed.

For new members and early birds on Sunday morning our annual members meeting with information about Chaîne in Sweden and around the world was scheduled. The programme of events ended with a luncheon at the hotel before safe travelling home.

All in all, our Grand Chapitre 2021 in Uppsala was everything we had hoped for. A great start of our “after COVID-19” activities.
