Finland World Chaîne Day

Bailliage of Savo, Finland
Kuopio, April 23, 2022

Gastronomy to the fore
" It was a great pleasure for everyone to once again be able to meet friends "

To celebrate World Chaîne Day, the Bailliage of Savo organised a Chapitre in Kuopio in co-operation with the Bailliage of Karelia.

The Bailli of Savo is Juhani Simpanen. His counterpart in Karelia was formally confirmed at this Chapitre as Tuomo Puhakainen who took over from Heikki Koskinen.

The city of Kuopio with its wider municipality is located in the region of Northern Savonia. Along with Joensuu, Kuopio is one of the major urban, economic, and cultural hubs of Eastern Finland.

Kuopio was the European Region of Gastronomy in 2020. It is also known as home of Kalakukko (fish, eg. perch, vendace, loach, smelt, or salmon, baked inside a loaf of bread), a traditional food of Savonia, which is why Kuopio is also known by the nickname the “Promised Land of Kalakukko”.

At the Induction Ceremony, presided over by Ari-Pekka Parviainen in his capacity as a Member of the Conseil d’Administration, there were a significant number of new members to be inducted and existing ones to be promoted.

Niilo Isotalo Photography recorded the evening’s wonderful Gala Dinner, the menu for which was made up of local delicacies such as terrine of vendace with whitefish roe and buttermilk sauce.

It was a great pleasure for everyone to once again be able to meet friends after the pandemic restrictions.
