Profile of the new Bailli Délégué
" A believer in social causes, Professor Lee is an advocate for women in leadership "

Professor Elizabeth Lee is the Chief Executive Officer of the Sunway Education Group (SEG). She has led SEG since 1992 during which time she has developed it from just one institution into a dynamic group of over 20 establishments, which encompass early childhood education, schools, higher education, as well as world-renowned research, sustainability and leadership development centres.

A thought-leader in the field of private education in the country, Elizabeth has been recognised with various local and international awards, while her views on and experiences in education, leadership, and transformation are often sought after.

Her international engagements have had her speaking at the Harvard Business School, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford and the University of Edinburgh. In 2021, she spoke at the first cloud-based University Development Conference hosted by the prestigious Chinese Association of Higher Education in China, and at the virtual meeting of Asia-Pacific University Presidents. Earlier this year she also shared her views on ‘Education Leadership: Connecting Students, Sustainability and Women Empowerment’ in a talk organised by the Tun Fatimah Women’s Leadership Centre, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

Most recently in 2022, Sunway University was voted No.1 for employability among employers in a survey conducted by Talentbank. This recognition is in line with Elizabeth’s leadership in driving SEG’s mission to provide a holistic and inclusive learning environment for all and, especially in future proofing talents for a digitalised and technology driven environment.

A believer in social causes, Professor Lee is an advocate for women in leadership, and supports and encourages efforts towards diversity and inclusion and closing the gap on attaining the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) through education and enterprise. In 2021, she was awarded the Leadership Commitment for Malaysia Award by UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific-Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP) in 2021.

Beyond SEG, Professor Lee is on the Board of Trustees of MERCY Malaysia (Medical Relief Society Malaysia). She previously served for six years as Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) Council member.

Professor Elizabeth Lee has a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Education from the University of Cambridge and is past president of the Oxford and Cambridge Alumni Society of Malaysia. Her many awards and accolades include two honorary doctorates from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, and Victoria University, Australia, respectively.
