Party on the shores of Wannsee
" Absolutely worth the visit not only in terms of cuisine but also visually with guests dressed elegantly "
After a three-year COVID-19 break the fifth “White Party” of our Confrère Thomas Brockmann in Haus Sanssouci on the shores of Wannsee saw guests superbly dressed in white (with light grey being acceptable). Temperatures up to 33C made the day exhaustingly hot.
Wannsee is the lake in southwestern Berlin known for its lido which is one of Europe's largest outdoor swimming areas on inland waters.
Thank goodness there were always enough cool drinks available. The reception at 11am began with well-chilled, generously poured Fürst von Metternich sparkling wine and Prosecco Mionetto for the around 230 (!) guests.
Seats were reserved for the 61 Chaîne friends in the so-called “summer” restaurant. After the welcoming words of Bailli Franz Hauk the feasting began. Several members had the good idea to have forgone breakfast!
A Mediterranean table buffet was ready. Everyone had much enjoyment from savouring vitello tonnato, salami, shrimp, buffalo mozzarella and olives, plus more from the surrounding region including hot white sausages.
At the live cooking stations you could enjoy coconut and lemongrass soup from the kettle, paella with chicken, pulled pork burgers and pink roast beef from the grill. Further dishes were available in the restaurant such as Caesar salad, summer cod with green asparagus, and braised veal cheeks with chanterelles.
The entertainment moderated by Chrissy Schulz was not neglected either. Live music for dancing and fashion shows were on the entertainment programme. Last but not least the raffle with previously purchased tickets was eagerly awaited.
Nobody had to miss out on the sweet ending either. A square metre-sized strawberry cake, nicely decorated with “WP 2023” and illuminated like a dream ship emerged into the daylight for consumption.
Somewhat after 4pm the wonderful lunch and afternoon came to an end. Absolutely worth the visit not only in terms of cuisine but also visually with guests dressed elegantly in white and lots of entertainment. Not to mention the fantastic weather! In addition, great organisation and good service.
You can look forward to next summer with its “White Party 2024” - participation is highly recommended!
