Born in Germany, Gerhard Hecker started his career in a 100-year-old family-owned Alpine Resort in Garmisch Partenkirchen as a Hotel Management apprentice in 1976. Progressive advancement with the Holiday Inn group followed. Gerhard joined the 600 room Holiday Inn Harbour View in Hong Kong as Assistant Food and Beverage Manager in 1983, moved a year later to open the Holiday Inn Park View in Singapore, followed by a two-year assignment in Malaysia.

In 1988, Gerhard was promoted to the position of Resident Manager at the Holiday Inn Harbour View in Hong Kong China. Bangkok came next to open the 740 room Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza.

Aged 36, Gerhard re-joined the Holiday Inn Harbour View as General Manager. He remained in this position for the coming 15 years during which he completely renovated the property and rebranded it as the InterContinental Grand Stanford.

From Hong Kong China Gerhard moved to Shanghai, China, to manage the JC Mandarin Hotel. Later he was invited to join the Shangri-La group as General Manager for the pre-opening and opening of the Futian Shangri-La Hote in Shenzhen, China. After almost four years in this role, Gerhard was transferred to lead the Shangri-La Hotel & Service Apartments in Jakarta, Indonesia, for over three years. Dubai in the United Arab Emirates was next where he managed the Shangri-La until 2017.

After Dubai, Gerhard landed in Mauritius to manage the Shangri-La Touessrok Resort until he joined the LUX* Belle Mare in 2021. On arrival in Mauritius Gerhard immediately transferred his membership in the Chaîne to the National Bailliage. He is now a member of the National Council.

During his career Gerhard has had the opportunity to create many new restaurant themes, several of which have been awarded Michelin stars. For the Bailliage of Mauritius Gerhard’s latest “star” event was hosting the 2023 Chapitre on November 24th. What a delight for the Bailliage to stage its annual Induction event, the most important one of the year, in such a luxurious environment as the LUX* Belle Mare.
