During the Bailliage’s 2025 Grand Chapitre Gala Dinner at the Hotel d'Angleterre, Officier Maître Hôtelier Johannes Jensen was awarded the Bailliage of Denmark’s Medal of Merit. Chancelier Thorbjørn Moy delivered an eloquent speech, explaining the reasons for this recognition.

Johannes Jensen has made a significant impact on the Faroese hotel and restaurant industry for many years being a driving force in the development of tourism in the Faroe Islands. At the same time, he has been an inspiration to everyone working in hospitality, gastronomy, and tourism.

As the owner of Hotel Føroyar, Johannes Jensen has created an establishment that not only sets the standard in the region but also showcases to the world what Faroese hospitality truly means. Under his leadership, Hotel Føroyar has become a symbol of the unique blend of history and modernity that makes the place truly special.

Sustainability is at the core of his vision. Johannes Jensen’s hotels work closely with local producers, allowing guests to experience the authentic flavours of the Faroe Islands. The restaurants, with their focus on freshness, quality, and locally sourced ingredients, are a testament to his commitment to supporting the local community.

Johannes Jensen’s vision and dedication have been crucial to the development of tourism in the Faroe Islands. He has played a key role in enabling the restaurant Koks to achieve two Michelin stars, bringing international recognition to Faroese gastronomy. This achievement highlights his ability to create something unique and extraordinary—a tribute to authentic ingredients, fine craftsmanship, and unforgettable culinary experiences, all of which unite us as members of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.

However, it is not just his accomplishments that are being celebrated. It is also his ability to bring people together, inspire his employees and set a benchmark for what hospitality truly means.

The Bailliage of Denmark’s Medal of Merit is the highest honour within the organization and is a special recognition awarded exclusively to individuals who have made an extraordinary and lifelong contribution to the advancement of gastronomy. Congratulations to hotel owner and entrepreneur Johannes Jensen on this prestigious distinction.

The medal was presented by Jørgen Krenk, Member of the Conseil Magistral and Bailli Délégué of Denmark, assisted by the Ambassador of Germany to Denmark, His Excellency Professor Dr Pascal Hector, who is a Chevalier d’Honneur in the Chaîne.
