Themed “Ball du Soleil”, Shanghai’s Gala Induction Evening was held at the luxurious Pudong Shangri-La Shanghai hosted by the Bailli of Shanghai, Lisa Leung. It was a magnificent celebration of culinary artistry and fine wines showcasing the Chaîne’s enduring spirit. Two hundred and fifty distinguished members, guests and culinary professionals from across China and beyond gathered for the occasion.
The day began with a formal Induction Ceremony in the afternoon for the city Bailliages of Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou and Wuxi.
The ceremony included:
- seven awards recognizing outstanding contributions to gastronomy and hospitality
- 57 promotions
- new members inducted into the Chaîne family
- seven new members welcomed into the OMGD (Ordre Mondial des Gourmets Dégustateurs).
The Gala Dinner was graced by the presence of esteemed guests whose contributions to the Chaîne and the culinary world were celebrated throughout the evening:
- Joe P. Thawilvejjakul who is a Member of the Conseil d’Administration and Bailli Délégué of Thailand
- Elizabeth Lee, Bailli Délégué of Malaysia
- Mr Joan Valadou, Consul General of France in Shanghai
- Sabine Tachot, Secrétaire Générale of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs
Their presence underscored the international reach and unity of the Chaîne, as well as its deep ties to both French and Asian culinary traditions.
It was an honour that renowned French actress Ms. Sophie Marceau joined us. Reflecting on the evening, Ms Marceau stated, “Excellence always pairs well with excellence.” Her words perfectly encapsulated the spirit of the event, where fine dining, exceptional wines and the art of hospitality converged.
It was a breathtaking setting for the Gala Dinner. The grand ballroom was elegantly decorated in a French and Chinese fusion. A live orchestra created an atmosphere of sophistication and warmth.
A culinary masterpiece was crafted by Executive Chef Olivier Pistre. His expertise and creativity shone through every dish expertly paired with fine wines and Cognacs, including selections from Camus, the official Cognac partner of the event.

The meal concluded with a tasting of Sophie Marceau’s exclusive Calvados, “Trésor by Sophie Marceau”, which was met with enthusiastic acclaim.

The afternoon Induction Ceremony further highlighted the Chaîne’s commitment to growth and excellence, welcoming new members and recognizing outstanding achievements.
Deepest gratitude was extended to Executive Chef Olivier Pistre, the Pudong Shangri-La Shanghai Hotel, the organizing committee as well as all the members and guests who contributed to the success of this extraordinary event.
The evening was a true reflection of the Chaîne’s motto: “Excellence in all things.”
