Sindre Hjelmseth, hailing from Mo i Rana, has quickly established himself as one of Norway’s most accomplished young chefs. With roots in Trondheim’s culinary scene, his journey is marked by determination, hard work with an impressive string of national and international achievements. Certainly, a rising star in Norwegian gastronomy.

Sindre’s professional career has been forged in kitchens across Norway starting in 2009 at Scandic Hotel Meyergården in Mo i Rana. In 2017 he left to broaden his experience in various establishments returning to Trondheim in 2018 to join respected fine-dining restaurant To Rom og Kjøkken. His time there proved formative, both in honing his skills and setting the stage for his future competition successes.

In 2023, Sindre was appointed Head Chef at Storfjord Hotel in Ålesund. In 2024 he took another significant step in his career by joining Restaurant Stallen, an eco-friendly gourmet restaurant in Oslo’s Homansbyen district. Housed in a historic stable it boasts one Michelin star and the coveted Michelin Green Star, reflecting both its culinary excellence and commitment to sustainability.

A career marked by experience and competition
Sindre’s professional career is distinguished by his restaurant experience and consistent success on the competition stage:

- Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs 2021: whilst at To Rom og Kjøkken, Sindre represented Norway at the international final in Paris at Le Cordon Bleu. Competing against the best young chefs in the world, Sindre secured the gold medal under the guidance of his coach, Eskil Hildonen. This victory brought him into the spotlight internationally and cemented his reputation as one of Norway’s finest culinary talents.

- Nordic Green Chef 2023: Together with Nils Flatmark, Sindre triumphed at this competition organized by the Nordic Chef Association, underlining his dedication to sustainability and innovation in cooking.

- Culinary Olympics (IKA): As Norwegian national culinary team member, Sindre helped Norway achieve historic success, winning multiple medals and securing top rankings on the international stage.

- NM i Kokkekunst (Norwegian National Chef Championship): Demonstrating his discipline and determination, Sindre prepared over 1,100 hours in advance of the competition, finishing amongst the top contenders.

- Norwegian national culinary team (“kokkelandslaget”): In October 2023 Sindre was officially selected to the expressing pride at the chance to represent Norway as title defenders on the world stage.

Chaîne career
Sindre joined the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs as a Rôtisseur in 2021, the standard entry for competitors in the Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs Competition. Following his gold medal win in Paris, Sindre remained closely involved with the Chaîne, serving as Assistant Kitchen Supervisor during the 2022 Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs Competition International Final in Mexico.

Recognizing his leadership and achievements, Sindre was promoted to Conseiller Culinaire for Norway in April 2025. His rise reflects not only his personal accomplishments but also the strength of the Bailliage of Norway, which has enjoyed an impressive series of victories in recent years.
