Geneva, Pays de Vaud and Valais, the three founding Bailliages in Switzerland, date back to May 26, 1951, making the country the first National Bailliage founded outside of France.

Today, Switzerland's circa 1,500 members make the Bailliage the fourth largest national Bailliage on a global perspective. Number one is the U.S.A. followed by Germany and Finland. Non-professional members account for about 70% of all Swiss members. Professional members are the Chefs, Maîtres d', Sommeliers and hotel and restaurant managers.

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the National Bailliage, members and their guests are invited to participate in a three-day Grand Chapitre programme based in Interlaken.

The town is a well-known tourist destination in the Bernese Oberland region of the Swiss Alps and the main transport gateway to the mountains and lakes of that region.
