Where the Arctic meets world-class gastronomy
As a lasting memento of the extraordinary evening, every participant received a specially commissioned Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Greenland pin featuring Greenland's iconic polar bear "
Only a few gastronomic experiences require guests to travel as far and as adventurously as the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Dinner Greenland 2026. Held in Nuuk, one of the world’s northernmost capitals, the event brought together 38 members and guests for an unforgettable celebration of gastronomy, friendship, and Arctic hospitality.
For many participants, the journey itself became part of the experience. Nuuk has no road connections to the outside world and can only be reached by air or sea. Many guests travelled on Denmark's longest domestic flight which is a five-hour direct flight from Copenhagen.
The destination is every bit as remarkable as the journey. Greenland, the world’s largest island, is covered by ice across nearly 80% of its land area and is home to some of the planet's most spectacular natural landscapes. While much of Europe experienced temperatures exceeding 40°C during an intense heatwave that weekend, guests arriving in Nuuk were welcomed by crisp Arctic air at just 4°C. Snow still covered the surrounding mountains, while small and large icebergs drifted peacefully through the fjord. A beautiful reminder that summer can be experienced in many different ways.
This year’s dinner marked a historic milestone as the very first Chaîne event ever held in Greenland.
The evening brought together members from both Greenland and Denmark, including Ida Nielsen, Bailli of Jutland & Greenland, and Kristian Worm, Bailli of Selandia. The event was further honoured by the presence of, among others, HRH Princess Eleonore, Grand Officer d’Honneur, and Jan Storgård, Grand Officier Maître Restaurateur.
Beyond the culinary experience, the evening also celebrated the unique bond between Greenland and Denmark. Although separated by more than 3,500 kilometres, the two countries are united within the Kingdom of Denmark, sharing a common history while each preserves its own culture, traditions, and identity.
Hotel Hans Egede - a kitchen of international excellence
The event was hosted at our member restaurant, Restaurant Sarfalik, in close collaboration with Bailli Ida Nielsen.
The hotel’s culinary team delivered an experience of the highest international standard under the leadership of Maître Restaurateur Jacob With Jørgensen, together with Maître Sommelier Mads Johansen and Maître Rôtisseur Michael Jørgensen.
With outstanding professionalism, creativity, and passion, they created an evening where the very best of Greenlandic cuisine was beautifully combined with the proud gastronomic traditions of the Chaîne.
The evening began with elegant Arctic-inspired canapés before guests were invited to enjoy an exquisite seven-course tasting menu celebrating Greenland’s exceptional local ingredients. Lumpfish roe, redfish, reindeer, and musk ox were transformed into contemporary cuisine of the highest calibre.
The evening's signature dish
One of the evening's most memorable highlights was a serving of Greenlandic gravlax-style cured lamb with caviar and confit egg yolk. A refined dish that perfectly showcased the outstanding quality of local ingredients.
Carefully selected wines for the seven courses
Each course was accompanied by carefully selected wines from some of Europe’s most renowned wine regions, creating harmonious pairings that beautifully complemented the distinctive flavours of the Arctic.
Yet the evening was about far more than exceptional food and wine. Around the tables, existing friendships were strengthened, new international connections were formed, and conversations continued long into the bright Arctic night.
As a lasting memento of the extraordinary evening, every participant received a specially commissioned Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Greenland pin featuring Greenland’s iconic polar bear. Designed exclusively for this dinner, the pin has already become a sought-after collector’s item symbolizing both Greenland’s magnificent natural beauty and the values of the Chaîne.
Other activities
For many guests, the experience continued the following morning with activities including a whale safari and deep-sea fishing in the pristine waters surrounding the Nuuk Fjord. The sight of humpback whales, seals, and large colonies of seabirds against a backdrop of mountains and drifting icebergs once again demonstrated that Greenland offers natural experiences unlike anywhere else on Earth.
A highly successful visit
A special thank you goes to Hotel Hans Egede and the hotel’s chefs and service team. Their professionalism, creativity, and warm hospitality ensured that the first-ever Chaîne des Rôtisseurs dinner in Greenland was executed to the highest international standard. As a special token of appreciation, each member of the kitchen and service team received a commemorative Kitchen & Service Pin in recognition of their contribution.
The success of the event demonstrated that world-class gastronomy is not limited by geography. Even in one of the world’s most remote regions, the values of the Chaîne - namely culinary excellence, respect for craftsmanship, international friendship, and the joy of sharing great meals around a common table - flourished.
As the guests departed Nuuk, they carried home far more than memories of an exceptional dinner. They returned with a deeper appreciation of Greenland, its people, and its gastronomy, along with the conviction that the Arctic has rightfully earned its place on the international culinary map.
Vive la Chaîne!
