Members and guests, especially this year including “Franz Joseph, the former Emperor of Austria, with his wife, Empress Sisi”, visited Maître Restaurateur Gerhard Bocek, the acclaimed “Asparagus King” of the Marchfelderhof in Deutsch-Wagram, to celebrate the “Golden Asparagus” awards.
The award of “best asparagus cook” went to Lisl Wagner-Bacher who runs an excellent country restaurant in Mautern an der Donau. Furthermore, Dagmar Koller, an Austrian singer, dancer and actress, was honoured as Spargelfeinchmeckerin (Asparagus foodie) for 2018.
Executive Chef Christian Langer served an outstanding menu accompanied by wines from the Roland Minkowitsch Winery.

Everyone agreed that this “historic” asparagus dinner was an exceptional event. The former Emperor congratulated all involved with his traditional words “it was very nice, I was very pleased”.
