At the famous Royal Varuna Yacht Club

Our first event of the year was a sunset barbecue dinner set on the water’s edge of the Gulf of Thailand at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club. The Club is a venue once frequented by late King Bhumibol Rama IX, who was an avid and competent sailor.
The 30 members and their guests commenced with a reception featuring Nino Franco Prosecco complemented with chicken satays, teriyaki salmon and pâté maison canapés. All enjoyed whilst witnessing the beautiful sunset over Koh Larn Island. What a stunning backdrop!
Bailli Carl Duggan gave a welcome address thanking members and guests for joining the event. He introduced the new committee, then explained the journey we would take through Italy’s best wine regions.
Fine Italian wines paired with delicious Thai appetisers awaited us. Included were steamed prawns, steamed Thai pork cake and traditional green papaya salad. Prime cuts of Australian beef picanha, New Zealand lamb cutlets, marinated gulf squid were grilled to order at the BBQ accompanied by a great variety of salads. To conclude, dessert was authentic banana roti with coconut ice cream.
All was warmly prepared by the Royal Varuna food and beverage team. A relaxed, joyful dining experience as the sun set and we enjoyed great conversations.
We closed the evening by thanking the Royal Varuna team led by General Manager Baz Osbourne. The traditional presentation of a certificate of appreciation and sincere thanks for a memorable evening was made to resounding applause.
