" What a wonderful weekend it was! "

Dinner was held at Gostilna Pri Lojzetu on Friday 10th.

The gastronomic offer at the Michelin 1-star establishment is now being presented by the fourth generation in the form of Chef Tomaž Kavčič. For a brief period he was seduced by the trendy molecular cuisine but he quickly returned to traditional cuisine albeit with many innovations.

Chef Tomaž loves his Vipava Valley, so he proudly shows it off on the plate. Every single dish in the restaurant is enveloped with the rich local tradition. Each one is first envisioned in his head then it is boldly tested in the kitchen but the final verdict always belongs to the guests.

And so it was for our dinner. Every mouthful was delicious as we have come to expect from dining at Gostilna Pri Lojzetu.

We said goodbye to Dvorec Zemono for a night’s rest to be fully prepared for a fine lunch experience at Domačija Majerija on Saturday 11th.

This villa outside the village of Slap pri Vipavi is another one of the top gastronomic destinations of the region. Showing considerable energy and commitment, Chef Matej Tomažič doubles as a lecturer at a culinary school in Trieste. Given his culinary skills, he confers a great pedigree on the establishment. Ingredients are freshly sourced from local producers or the villa’s own herb garden.

The menu is seasonal focusing on “sunshine” Mediterranean cuisine during the spring and summer and full flavoured, warming central European dishes in autumn and winter.

What a wonderful weekend it was!
