Where nature meets a passion for wine

" For Akin Gürbüz, winemaking is more than a profession, it is an art and a profound passion "

With a pioneering vision for winemaking, Gürbüz Winery has captured the hearts of wine enthusiasts and those lucky enough to taste good wine, by producing exceptional wines crafted from the fertile vineyards of Türkiye’s Thrace region.

Located within the picturesque Thrace Wine Route, Gürbüz Winery is surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and rich viticultural heritage, making it a must-visit destination for wine lovers all over the world. At the heart of this success lies the extensive, expertise, passion, and global education, reputation of the winery’s founder, Akın Gürbüz.

Akın discovered his passion for winemaking from his home roots where his family have grown their grapes for three generations. Akin has turned this foundation to make his wines now for more than ten years. During his university years Akın embarked on a journey fuelled by curiosity and dedication to developing his skills. His pursuit of deep knowledge in viticulture and oenology led him to complete a four-year Viticulture and Enology programme at the University of California, Davis.

During his studies, Akın honed his skills in some of the world’s most renowned wine regions, including Napa, Mexico, and New Zealand. Here, he mastered the art of blending modern winemaking techniques with traditional methods. Upon returning to Türkiye, he made a significant impact by consulting for numerous prestigious wineries where he created top medal winning blends for the most prestigious wineries in Türkiye. Akın then went on to found Gürbüz Winery in 2012, establishing his own brand.

For Akın Gürbüz, winemaking is more than a profession. It is an art and a profound passion. He prioritizes respect for nature and sustainability at every step of the process. By cultivating a broad range of grape varieties, including international classics such as Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah, as well as indigenous Anatolian grapes like Kalecik Karası and Öküzgözü, Gürbüz Winery offers a diverse spectrum of flavours and winning blends.

Akin oversees every stage of production, from vineyard to bottle. He adheres to sustainable farming practices and environmentally conscious methods. This maintains the highest quality standards whilst representing Turkish winemaking both nationally and internationally. This dedication has earned Gürbüz Winery numerous accolades showcasing the winery and his commitment to blending excellence and tradition.

Through Akin’s wine tastings, vineyard tours and educational events, Gürbüz Winery provides visitors with a unique vineyard experience in the various regions where his grapes are sourced, perfectly complementing the charm of the Thrace Wine Route. Guided by Akın’s innovative vision, the winery continues to promote Turkish winemaking by combining excellence with environmental responsibility.

The wines of Gürbüz Winery reflect Akın Gürbüz’s deep expertise and profound respect for nature, unlocking the potential of local vineyards whilst aspiring to introduce Turkish wines to the global stage.

Akin is involved with every facet along the way from vine to table working with his grape growers, his amazing team. Tasting the produce of the grapes, one would agree no enthusiast should miss this wine!
