Golden Jubilee celebration - Gala Induction Evening
" President Yam Atallah, presiding with dignity, reminded all of their responsibilities as custodians of the Chaîne "
Saturday, September 27th saw the ceremonial heart taking place of the Golden Jubilee held at The Fullerton Hotel Singapore.
The Induction Ceremony began with solemn procession, as National Officers led dignitaries, former Baillis Délégués, and members into the hall. Families, spouses, and partners beamed with pride as their loved ones, including third-generation members, stepped forward to receive their respective ribbons on stage. Swish of the sword, drape of the sash, and dignified handshake were deeply moving. For parents to see their children inducted, spouses to see partners recognised, was to witness heritage alive across generations. In total, 15 new members were inducted, while over 40 confrères received promotions.
President Yam Atallah, presiding with dignity, reminded all of their responsibilities as custodians of the Chaîne.
The Gala Dinner that followed was an exquisite performance conducted by Chef David Laval. Each dish unfolded like a movement in a symphony. Cured kampachi with bright citrus, refreshing and precise; Patagonian toothfish, delicate and buttery with the finale Five Founders beef short ribs, slow-cooked to melt-in-the-mouth richness.
The wines matched the grandeur of the moment, for example:
- Chacra Mainque Chardonnay 2021 - luminous and mineral, elevating the kampachi.
- Château Batailley 2005 - layered with cassis, cedar, and truffle, a perfect foil to the beef.
- Bouchard Père & Fils, Beaune 1er Cru Grèves 2011- elegant, silky earthy, refined and lingering to last.
The crowning touch was the Armagnac Castarède 1975 chosen to reflect the year of Singapore’s incorporation into the Chaîne. Its amber depths, resonant with dried fruit, leather, and spice, embodied 50 years of heritage. As glasses were raised everyone toasted both Golden Jubilee and living memory of the Bailliage’s founding year.
The celebration honoured past Bailli Délégués, whose leadership has carried the Bailliage to this day. A special recorded greeting from Fil Juntereal, the founding light at 93 years, drew heartfelt applause. Later, as the 50th Anniversary cake was rolled out, the entire company joined in song. The final collective toast captured the moment: “Fifty years behind us! Fifty bright years ahead! With countless shining Chapitres yet to come.”
The evening closed with joyous dancing to The High Notes. Laughter, music, and fraternity filled the ballroom late into the night. A scene of unity that will be remembered for decades.
Vive la Chaîne!
