Traditional Saxon celebrations

" a wonderful day in Upper Lusatia "

On the Social Media Wall the Bailliage reported that they had a wonderful day in Upper Lusatia* for the second day of their “Flag Gathering” in the most beautiful weather.

They first visited the Herrnhuter Sterne Manufaktur [Ed. Herrnhut Star Factory where visitors can watch the assembly of paper and plastic stars, learn about the history, and assemble their own stars].

The report continued, “We then went to the Chaîne member establishment Hotel Tuchmacher in Görlitz where Grand Officer Maître Hôtelier Martin Vits hosted the group for Brotzeit. [Ed. literally translating to “bread time”, it is a traditional, hearty, and usually cold snack or light meal, popular in Bavaria and Southern Germany. It consists of sliced bread or pretzels served with cold cuts, cheese, radishes, pickles, and butter, often accompanied by beer.]

Well reinforced, we walked through Görlitz known for its well-preserved old town, where buildings of different eras show off a wealth of architectural styles.

On the coach back we were surprised with a champagne reception at Hotel Bei Schumann - the wellness resort in Schirgiswalde-Kirschau in the Upper Lusatian Mountains. In the evening there was a reception and afterwards a Saxon style dinner hosted by the hotel’s owner Officer Maître Hôtelier Rüdiger Schumann and his wife Petra. Chef Robert Hauptvogel delighted us with his fine regional cuisine.”

The post on the Social Media Wall concluded by thanking the Bailliages of Niedersachsen and Bavière Orientale together with all the dear members and guests who attended the “Flag Gathering”.

* Ed. Upper Lusatia is a historical region in Germany and Poland. Along with Lower Lusatia to the north, it makes up the region of Lusatia, named after the Slavic Lusici tribe. The major part of Upper Lusatia is part of the German federal state of Saxony, roughly comprising the Bautzen district and the Görlitz district. The eastern part of Upper Lusatia is in Poland, east of the Neisse (Nysa) river, in Lower Silesian Voivodeship.
